Canvas Learning Academy Syllabus

Welcome to the Canvas Learning Academy!  This course site provides tools, best practices, and interactive assignments to prepare you for teaching online at Providence College.  The staff in the Office of Teaching and Learning Technologies (TLT) looks forward to working with you. 

The TLT has both in-house and organizational/vendor resources for teaching online, that allow for 24/7/365 Support from TIER 1 Experts with Canvas Creators Instructure for our faculty.  The TLT staff works with faculty on their development and transition for teaching online, face-to-face, on campus, by phone, or via remote Zoom calls. 

Course Description

A training course designed for Providence College faculty to prepare for teaching online. Hosted by the Office of Teaching and Learning Technologies (TLT). The course offers tools, best practices, and interactive assignments to support online instruction. It also includes a badge system to recognize progress and achievements.

Navigation & Tools

Navigating your CLA course

  • The left-side navigation menu includes a "Home" button, which will bring you back to here. 
  • The Announcements button will be a place the instructor can announce something to the entire class at one time.  Sometimes the instructor will ask for feedback. 
  • The "Modules" button acts as a gateway to your class that includes everything you need to know to start your first Canvas class. 
  • Next is the Credentials button, there you will be able to see your achievements as you go through this class and others. 
  • The Microsoft OneDrive button will take you to your personal PC OneDrive account where you can save your homework, save files or upload things to your CLA class when needed.
  • The Zoom button will be one of the ways you will learn and collaborate in this class.  There maybe seminars or meetings with the instructor, or collaborations with other class members in your Zoom room.
  • The icons in the black section include a question mark ? , at the bottom of the screen,  there you can find help 24/7 about Canvas.  As you can see, help is built into this entire program.
